About Us
Wigan Sailing Club is located at Poolstock, on the beautiful Scotman's Flash. The Sailing Club has provided opportunities for the people of Wigan and surrounding areas to participate in sailing and watersports since 1968.The club has a friendly atmosphere and is very welcoming whatever your age, sex, ethnic origin or ability. Training courses are run throughout the year to help build up your skills.
Wigan Sailing Club is run by its members who organise regular club racing (usually all year round) supplemented by a healthy series of social events and club trips including weekend trips away to Abersoch, Coniston and Ullswater.
Sailing at the club takes place in a variety of boats including Enterprises, Gp14s, Wayfarers, as well as Lasers, Solos and Mirrors. If you are new to sailing please don't buy a boat before trying a few different ones. - This is the biggest mistake people make!
The club has Gp14s, Enterprises, Lasers, Toppers and Optimist dinghies which are available for the use of members.
The club owns the land upon which it is built purchased back in 1985 from the Central Electricity Generating Board.
The clubhouse has a club room and a conservatory for viewing those inevitable capsizes! There is also a galley which provides Hot and cold drinks as well as hot meals on club days. Again the galley is run by members for members.
The club makes its facilities available to a number of other groups who we work with closely including Wigan Sea Cadets, Wigan Canoeing Group, Wigan Water Dragons (Dragon Boaters), as well as groups from the local nature reserve.
Stop by for a visit to see our facilities and meet our friendly members and learn more.
